How to Get Cash Back Twice on the Same Purchase
5 minute read · Beginner
The idea: stacking
"Stacking" means using more than one rewards program on a single purchase. Each program pays you separately, so the same order earns you money two or three times. The easiest beginner stack is a cash back site plus a receipt app.
Step 1: Start at a cash back site
Before you shop online, open a cash back site like Rakuten or TopCashback, search for the store, and click through. The store pays the site for sending you, and the site shares part of that with you. New Rakuten members can also earn a sign-up bonus after their first qualifying purchase.
Step 2: Pay like normal
Check out as usual. Tip: don't use coupon codes from outside sources at checkout, because they can cancel your cash back. Codes listed on the cash back site itself are safe.
Step 3: Scan the receipt
After you buy, scan your receipt (paper or emailed) with Fetch. It works on almost any receipt, including groceries and gas, and the points add up toward free gift cards.
Step 4: Pay with a rewards card
If you already have a credit or debit card with rewards, use it. That's a third layer on top of the first two. Only do this if you pay your balance in full; interest wipes out any rewards.
Quick example
A $100 online order could earn a few percent back from the cash back site, points from Fetch for the receipt, and 1 to 2% from your card. Small amounts, but they add up on purchases you were making anyway.
